The "Basic 90" wheelset is a wheelset for a budget. Every VM rider will be familiar with this. You have some trails to ride, but your tire is flat. This is where the "Basic 90" comes into play, ready-mounted and waiting in your garage for a short-term use.

We use Sturmey Archer XL-SD drum brake hubs in the 90 mm version.

Together with silver DT Swiss Champion round spokes and the DA16 from Alexrims, we mount one of our proven Ginkgo velomobile wheels.

The spoke tension in our velomobile wheels is set very high. This is necessary to counteract the expansion of the drum under strong thermal stress due to braking maneuvers.

The DA16 is a true and proven veteran in the specialty bike scene. It is simple but sturdy, and it is not a tubeless rim. This makes it easy to install and remove tires on the go in the event of a puncture.

Our wheelsets can, of course, be delivered for use with 12mm and 15mm axles.
12mm is the standard. For use in A7, W9, M9, A9, and other vehicles with 15mm axles, this can simply be specified when ordering.

If you have any questions about selecting a more suitable wheelset, we are happy to advise you by email or phone.

The "Basic" model is also assembled ready to ride. The wheels are bead-blasted and the spokes stretched. There is no need to true or re-tension them.
Naturally, a suitable high-quality rim tape is already installed upon delivery. We always double-layer rim tape to ensure maximum safety.
A wheel report is also included, detailing the wheelset's key data, such as concentricity, materials used, and spoke tension. This data is also stored in our company database, so we can quickly find the right replacement in the event of damage. To identify the wheels, a 4-6 digit serial number is engraved in the rim well near the valve hole.

Materials used:

Spokes: DTswiss Champion silver 15G

Warnings and safety information
-The wheelset was carefully assembled by hand according to the latest state of the art technology.
-The wheelset bears a serial number in the rim well near the valve hole, which allows it to be clearly identified.
-The wheels are attached to the velomobile's shock absorber with a central screw in the center of the hub.
-Before starting your ride, ensure that the wheels rotate smoothly and without play. If you still feel slight play, check that this screw is tight. A very slight amount of play may occur due to the use of C3 bearings (bearings with increased internal clearance). We use these to compensate for the thermal expansion of the drum during heavy and sustained braking. This minimal play is non-critical and is a design feature.
-If the central fastening screw has come loose, reinsert it using a small drop of medium-strength Loctite.
-Check the integrity of the spokes/nipples and rims at regular intervals (for example, when inflating the tire).
-Run the tires used within the permissible air pressures.
-When inflating, also check for undamaged treads and intact tire sidewalls.
-We tension the front wheels of velomobiles very tightly. Re-tensioning them is not necessary.
They maintain this tension almost their entire service life. Should anything become loose, please contact us. We would be happy to inspect the wheel and remedy the problem.
